Heroes and Cthulu

To increase our overall post count, I have taken it upon myself to post some links.

I found a link to a new Cthulu PC game. The website just launched today and I don't have many details.

Also, the new Freedom Force game/expansion thing has some new screenshots on AVault. Also, PC.IGN has a Q & A with them about this game too. I really really like Freedom Force - its one of the less sucky superhero games out today. And I hope the sequel turns out to be just as enjoyable...

That game looks really cool. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Thanks Tim! Especially for adding yet another Cthulhu link. Its been too long since the last one...

So, has anyone actually read any of the Cthulu stories? What were your impressions?

I've read a couple of Lovecraft stories when I was younger. I remember them being rather disturbing. I may have to read a few more now that I'm not as sane as I was then. But, anyone who can think up the names Cthulhu and Yog-Sothoth can't be bad!

Oooh! And it looks like it's being developed by Bethesda, which hit a home run with the Elder Scrolls games. I can't wait!

I never read any Lovecraft, but I have the Cthulhu RPG, and have seen the movie Reanimator so I should get at least partial credit.

I have not read any Lovecraft either, but I believe I have seen a few other "inspired" movies: Reanimator, From Beyond (thats a winner right there), and some other film a few years ago. I would read his works, but I am trying to remain sane a few more years...

Lovecraft is now legit. That is, there is a handsome new collection out recently, from Library of America publishers (I think they are connected to the Library of Congress). A good collection, giving you a selection of his major works (except for any of the Dreamlands stories). Heck, there's even a ribbon bookmark!

As for Lovecraft movies, they are overall pretty pathetic. The closet to get the "look and feel" was one called "In the Mouth of Madness". During the late 70's plans were afoot for one called "Cry of Cthulhu" that I saw drawings and models for. Alas, it never came to be.

I still have fond memories of Chaosium's CoC RPG. I probably ran games in that the most, nest to Empire of the Petal Throne and Traveller.

I remember the Cthulhu RPG as well. I swear I thought that we played that when we were kids JP, but hey, I've slept since then. The most interesting part of the game in my humble opinion was that you could go insane the MORE you knew. So your character might actually know what the wee nastie thingie slurping it's way towards you might be, but be completely incapable of telling your compatriots!(Fred is definately correct though, the Lovecraftian movies by and large and REALLY awful. Any movie with the 'Necronomicon' in it, or good ole Miskatonic U, is going to be at best, really funny, and more typically fodder for MST3K. That which is not dead which can eternal lie....
