As if Entertainment Weekly is a bastion of all things SF. I'll probably watch this as the book is one of my all time favorites, even if it is aimed at kids.

Bastion...I'll add that to my Beavis List.

I'm curious to see how it turns out, especially if they've (urgh) "updated" it. Will they remove the 1950's anti-communist stuff? Or leave it as it was?

I was at the firehouse last night, so I turned it on at 9:00 PM when I got home. I watched about 10 minutes, did not see much similarity with the wonderful book, and turned to "SkiFi" channel to catch some Stargate SG1.

Disney blows it again.

Well, I watched it. Didn't think it was too bad. I actually thought the child actors were pretty good. There were some parts that felt "magical" and others that seemed contrived. The special effects, while not state-of-the-art, were more than passable. Some of the middle parts were slower, but overall it was worth the watch. Especially being able to zip through the commercials Tivo-shortcut style.
