REVIEW: A Case of Conscience by James Blish »
A Veritable Cornucopia of Star Wars

Yes, Sept. 21st is drawing ever closer, and the web is becoming littered with Star Wars Trilogy DVD goodness.

  • USA Today has a look at the DVDs and the obligatory changes.
  • Time (and this one is for John) also takes a look at their press copy of the DVD set (the bastards).
  • Sci Fi Wire has Lucas defending the changes he made to the movies.
  • And those crazy Aussies have been busy reviewing each original movie in the DVD set. Via Website at the End of the Univerese, I think.

Not too mention I saw the giant posterboard display upon enter WalMart this morning. You'd think Star Wars was a cultural phenomena or something...

So I just read through that list of changes again, and they seem to be okay. Sure there is the Han/Greedo thing but lets let it die already. The others give some consistency to the movies and help tie it all together, but my concern is what else might have changed that they are not talking about. I know the originals stand on thier own and there is enough copies of them out there (I do own the last release on VHS,) but I guess I am still wondering why he would spend the time and effort making these changes as compared to actually making a better third movie...

Oh yeah, and removing the ewoks and replacing them with long toothed razor beasts - now that would get me to buy it.
