POLL RESULTS: Science Fiction Media

Here are the results of the latest SF Signal poll.

QUESTION
What is the format of science fiction you most prefer?

RESULTS
50% - Books
20% - Movies
20% - Doesn't matter
5% - Comics/Graphics novels
5% - Television
0% - I don't like science fiction

(Total votes: 20)

Half of the voters like literary science fiction. An equal number of people either prefer movies or will take any sf they can get. Only 5% preferred TV sf...maybe a reflection of the state of sf on TV? On the predicatble front, there are no readers of this science fiction blog who dislike science fiction, dispelling any misconceptions that vistors are tuning in to our witty banter.

There's witty banter here?

Who knew?

And it is true that TV SF blows dingo kidnies. Maybe the upcoming Battlestar Galactica series will fix that. Speaking of which, those blokes in the UK get to see the new BG before we in the States do. What's up with that? So, James, have you seen it yet??

The SF TV I get to watch is so far beneath brilliant that I feel sad just talking about it. The problem is that I don't have cable, satellite or digital hence my TV SF is restricted to the UK's 5 terrestrial stations. You may have noticed that I've given up blogging about SF on TV, that's why.

Current SF series that are running are...
Stargate SG1
Smallville
err...I think that's it.

However Sky are going to do a subscription free satellite service soon, with just a one off ?150 fee. And Sky have more SF, like Battlestar Galactica I believe.

Yep, Sky has already aired 2 episodes of the new Battlestar Galactica series (which can be found at the usual tv bittorrent sites, for informational purposes, of course ).

However, we will get to see it in the US as well sometime in 2005, according to GateWorld

Other SciFi/Fantasy we sadly cannot see here yet:

  • "Hex" on Sky One - the British Buffy

  • "ReGenesis" on TMN (Canada) - a biotech X-Files

As to the Poll, the next time I might like the SF game category as a choice. There are some decent temporary SF fixes to be found in online games.
