The article on the Traveller RPG is excellent. It deconstructs, in detail, the probable, and possible, influences earlier SF had on the original Traveller RPG. I actually have the original game box and most of the original books. I can attest to the 'DIY' aspect of the game. Its basically just a set of rules to cover character creation and combat. Everything else was left to the GM to figure out. Quite a difference to today's RPGs, especially of the D20 variety.

I see that Traveller is still around today in a D20 and GURPS format. I may check them out. In fact, GURPS also has stuff based on Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, the Miles Vorkosigan series, and a harder SF setting called Transhuman Space. Nice!

I'm going to sell my whole Traveller collection (actually, I've started already). So if there's anything you need...e-mail me!
