Matthew Cheney wrote an interesting article for Strange Horizons called The Old Equations which starts off with the oft-used "sf is dead" notion. The article goes on to talk about the how the field of science fiction has changed over the years and Cheney subsequently distinguishes between "genre" and "style".
History shows that waving the "sf is dead" flag is sure to generate some discussion. Sure enough, that was exactly Cheney's intent as he says at Mumpsimus, his personal blog.
Meanwhile, SF author Tobias S. Buckell discusses his take on the matter.
