Are heroic fantasy books bloated?

The majority of folks think that heroic fantasy is bloated. I intentionally omitted a "depends on the book/author" answer from the poll since I thought that would just be a vote magnet. I had a suspicion that people would then vote "No" not wanting to slight all books, so I was a little surprised that most people said Yes.
Does anyone have a good example of slim heroic fantasy?

I know that many consider it young adult fiction, but Le Guin's original Earthsea trilogy is the first thing that comes to mind.

Each of the Elric books, in fact most of Moorcock's Eternal Champion series, are slim volumes. Most of the John Carter of Mars books come in under 200 pages.

Fritz Leiber. Jack Vance. Clark Ashton Smith. The "Dreamland" tales of H.P. Lovecraft. In fact, just about anything published by Ballantine for their lamented Adult Fantasy Series. Novels that first appeared in "Unknown".
Early Tim Powers. Some other folks that are current, but the bloat factor is definately more seen the later you get.
