Misjudging a Book by Its Title

After several (hundred) visits to the used bookstore, I kept seeing a book on the shelf by Leo Frankowski called A Boy and His Tank. My first impression was to skip this book because the title was so, well, lame. The book would come and go from the shelves over the years, but I kept away solely because of the title.

A couple of weeks ago, I ran across another Frankowski book called The War with Earth. I read the first chapter and loved it! It was then that I noticed that the book was second in a series that started with A Boy and His Tank. D'oh! Back to the bookstore (like I need another excuse).

Anyway, I'm about halfway through A Boy and His Tank and I must say it's pretty good. Sadly, I short-changed the book because of the title. Lesson learned. Silly me.

Don't miss his series about Conrad Stargard (The Crosstime Engineers, etc.). And try to meet Leo -- he's a fascinating guy, and he often comes armed with bottles of his homemade mead. He lives in the Detroit area, and he often attends cons in Michigan and adjacent states.

I lied. He doesn't live in Detroit anymore. He moved to Russia. Oh well...
