Early Reviews for Serenity

The Movie Blog has a mostly-positive early review of Serenity. Ain't It Cool also has a positive review. Lee's Movie Info has a not-so-good review.

Critics are interesting characters really. I read Lee's review and I am not sure what he was expecting. I believe Serenity was always intended to be targeted for Firefly fans and there is an expectation that people would know the backstory before seeing it. But if you haven't, I would expect a review of this nature. Personally, I am looking forward to it and I take most of what critics say with a grain of salt.

After posting my previous comment, I decided to try and find a movie that was rated an "A" on that site so would be able to have some comparison of data. They rated Team America an A but The Incredibles a B+. Right there, I can honestly say they have a flawed system for reviews. I have seen both movies and I just find those grades woefully out of whack. I will stick with my standard mechanism of testing a movie's quality - my friends and family.

I, too, am looking forward to it. Can't wait.:D

Lee also seems to have seen a screener of Serenity, seeing as how the review date is April 24th. Right there, you know the film wasn't in its final cut and had temporary (or no) FX and music. I can't see how 'reviewing' a screener is of any use whatsoever.

And I am looking forward to it. And The Incredibles is a much better film than Team America.

Maybe Lee needs puppets to be happy.

I can't believe that Whedon would be foolish enough to aim Serenity at only Firefly fans. There simply aren't enough of them to make for a big hit film. If the film actually requires that you know the Firefly backstore then it's success will be shortlived.

While I dont think the movie is fully targeting fans, it has a heavy slant in that direction since the DVD sales of the series alone are quite good. Furthermore, I don't believe they will spend much time on backstory and will assume some knowledge of the characters...
