Crime Moves to Virtual Worlds

An interesting item from Collision Detection: PWSteal.Wowcraft is a new password-stealing Trojan horse that attempts to steal the password to the "World of Warcraft" game and send it to the creator of the Trojan. The idea is that the thief assumes your identity, moves your stuff to his account and then sells it on eBay. The site also links to counterfeiting cases and an online mugging. Also, there's a link to an article on game economies.

With my usual dose of apathy tossed in with a dash of schadenfreude (also known as epicaricacy), all I have to say is that whoever gets hit by the trojan has no one to blame but themselves -- besides, it's not the end of the world -- they're virtual items, for pete's sake!

This is no different then people being socially engineered by emails into giving away their password -- if you're that dumb, you probably deserved it!
