Here's Something Supernatural

Via SciFi Ranter Girl comes this link to the very first episode of the upcoming WB series, Supernatural. The scary thing is that Yahoo! chooses to associate this show with Charmed, Smallville, and Buffy. Yes, yes, I know that Buffy has tons of fans, but I never saw it and was never interested in it, even after seeing Firefly. Anyway, none of those shows cause me to think that the WB will in any way make this a good show, although they do caution you to "brace yourself for a new kind of paranormal thriller." Maybe that means it will actually be good.

I may even watch this just to see if it is good, or just more of the same crap the WB will show that even SciFi won't...

I work at a WB station. I saw the pilot. It sucked. Pretty people going after scary goth things. Seen it before.
If WB wants to make a horror show, they should retool Gilmore Girls. Have the season opener start with the townfolk waking up to find the grandmother's eviscerated body in the town green, her entrails spelling out "they are coming" across the dewy grass. Sulphurous-smelling octopi drop from the clouds onto all the men, digging tendrils into thier nervous systems and compelling them to rape any fertile female they find. Minutes later the women's bellies burst open and twisted, unatural things emerge. The surviving humans are harvested for their organs. Rory and the grandfather (Edward Hermann, who's charater gets to live because he's the only one on the show who can act) try to head out of town, but discover that the rest of the world has vanished. The town is now situated in the bowels of hell, as payment for a promise made by the town fathers long ago...

I have ideas for The O.C. as well...

Ewww, it's Rory's ex with the ex-transgenic -- where are the babes in this show?? I aint watching a formulaic show from WB if it doesn't have hot babes in it!!!

I've got to agree with JP; although, I found myself hooked on Buffy in the fourth season I think (the one where Buffy goes to college) and stuck around until the series finale. Charmed and Smallville have never had any draw for me. A comparison to Charmed, although I have never watched a minute of it, is a turnoff. My uninformed opinion is that Charmed is a bland, dumb show that remains on the air for no apparent reason. And the boyfriend from Gilmore Girls does not seem the type to carry a show. I have watched a couple of early seasons of Gilmore Girls. I thought he did well as the nice, normal guy boyfriend, but was uninteresting except for the fact he is a normal guy surrounded by hyper, wacky people.

As for TV I may watch this season. Recent reasonably good reviews of Invasion, Threshold, and Bones may have convinced me to give them a try. (Supernatural got a good review too so I?ll have to see.) Other than that I don't plan to watch any new network shows. The quality of network TV sure makes it easy to continue to reduce the amount of time I spend watching TV.

And Peter, thanks for the transgenic remark. That's why I vaguely recognize that other actor.

I have to say that none of the new shows really appeal to me all that much. I may have my DVR record the pilots just to see. I believe there are 3 reasons (or 6 depending on how you look at it) for the appeal of Charmed, if you know what I mean.

And I hadn't heard of Bones. Turns it, its on Fox and is basically Quincy for the 21st centtury, only minus Sam.

As for Supernatural, I'm inclined to go with Jeff's review, short as it is, and it won't bother me if I miss it. Or any of the new shows. The only two I watch on a regular basis are Lost and, of course, Battlestar Galactica.
