Putting SCI FICTION on Ice

Metaxucafe has an interesting post describing how to download the soon-to-be-extinct SCI FICTION website down to your local hard drive. The procedure uses a program called wget which is essentially a command line version of a web browser's save feature.

John, did you notice how they moderate comments at Metauxcafe? I know, we've discussed registration before, but maybe it's not so bad to have the regulars register and use captchas for the everyone else? Don't know if spam is still an issue of late...

The spam issue has been resolved with no pesky registration or captchas necessary. The Spam rate has gone from about 50 MPD (messages per day) to exactly zero MPD thanks to some back end protection (tee-hee).

Anyone have any idea how much disk space the entire site takes up?

If I had to guess, and this is only a guess, I would say 34.9 MB (36,646,875 bytes) comprised of 5,012 files and 593 folders.

How precise!

So, not being an html nerd, is there any way to reconcile the pictures to the pages without editing all of the html for each page?

So John, have you downloaded the site to share with the rest of us?
