Hey, check the poll code on your newest poll. I just voted for Neuromancer and it recorded my vote as one for Hyperion. I didn't much like Hyperion. Not only that, but the poll shows that all 20 votes cast so far are for Hyperion. Something smells fishy (or Shrike-y?) to me.

D'oh! Thanks, John! I've updated the poll. I'll also post a "Whoops" message to recapture the votes.

One of the 'Other' votes. Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed.

I own, I would estimate, 100+ Star Trek media tie-ins. I started in high school buying the new Pocket Book every month from the local department store book section. Back then there was one new TOS book out each month. Once TNG debuted, Pocket Book alternated TOS and TNG novel every month. I did that all through high school, but there was less time for reading in college and my taste in books improved. Or else that many MTIs got too repetitive for me. I never read the last TOS novel I purchased. After 5 or more years of it sitting there, I finally gave it away. I just couldn't bring myself to start it. I know there is more variety in the ST MTIs, but I don't have the time for them. I don't have the time for the non MTIs I want to read like Old Man's War.

I liked Timothy Zahn's Star Wars fill in trilogy. I even purchased the last two in hard back so I could continue the saga ASAP. But I discovered that his was the exception and I liked it for his quality writing and not because I liked reading SW novels.

Not sure if I got a vote in for that poll or not (IIRC, the answer is probably not). Do read Tie-ins, but of the Dr. Who and BtVS variety, makes me pretty pathetic, eh.

There's no such thing as pathetic readers, Allan, only pathetic people. :O Or something like that. ;-)

Belated reply, John thanks for the support, because they're plenty of snobs in fandom, who are very quick to ridicule BtVS fans and those who are truly, in the snob's opinion, pathetic variety of BtVS fan, the tie-in reader. IRL, I've been told by some they'd rather read, and it would be more worthwhile to read, badly translated software manuals than media-tie ins.

BtVS fans are pretty pathetic. On the other hand, fans of Serenity/Firefly ROCK ON!

:)

(Just kidding, of course!)

As far as media tie-in novels, I've cut back significantly. I've got my original fanboy prize (the first printing of SW, several months before the movie, with a very dark Ralph McQuarrie cover). I have a bunch of Star Trek, mostly favorites such as the Blish and Foster novelizations, plus "Spock Must Die" by Blish. Then there are a bunch of the Pocket editions, especially my favorite "The Final Reflection" by John M. Ford.

Sold off most of the SW, ST, Dr. Who, etc. books years ago. Now I buy "snack food" books like David Weber's Honor Harrington series. They could be media tie-ins!
