Star Trek XI

The 11th Star Trek movie has passed the realm of rumor to become fact, or as close to fact as Hollywood can produce. Empire Magazine is reporting that Paramount, owner of the Trek franchise, has assigned director J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias) to the film.

The movie will focus on the early days of Kirk and Spock. (Perhaps shedding some light on their mutual attraction to each other that I read so much about on the Internet? Not that there's anything wrong with that.) A Starfleet Academy-based movie has been talked about for years and it looks like someone finally listened.

I pray to Cthulhu, Galactus, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster, to please let this franchise die. And if they must dig it up again, to grant them the wisdom to MOVE FUCKING FORWARD.

Are you kidding? This has to be the biggest money-making franchise after Star Wars, no? Why one Earth would the suits let go of that? Artistic integrity? They will keep making it as long as they think it will make them money or the fans (or the lack thereof) prove otherwise.

"...the fans (or the lack thereof)?" Hello! Of course, there will always be trekkies -- otherwise what would they do with themselves? They would have to run out and have real jobs and have a real life...

In fact, it will be the guy that does Lost. Good luck convincing the trekkies out there...

The Romulan war concept was far superior. This idea is just stupid and may permanently kill the franchise.
