Thanks for the mention of my serial YA sf/f novel Mortal Ghost. I'll be interested in what your readers think, particularly in light of the recent discussion about YA fiction. Most of my readers seem to be adults!

SteveReads wrote like 1000 words in defence of writting better franchized sci-fi.
Personally I prefer original work, franchizes such as star wars or star trek or dune seem to speak more to the fetishist side of geekdom then to actual sci-fi fandom and it is better for B-writers to fill out this sector with B-grade work rather then spending much effort improving it.

How could someone sit through the entire Voyager series? I mean, even for a Ph.D that's brutal.

Honestly, the same folks that will complain that the SF section is thinning at a local book store complain when some of the stuff is written as B-grade pulp novels? You have to have a range of stuff to appeal to folks and if some knock off media tie in novel gets someone interested in SF - then that is a good thing. Personally, I would put up with a bunch of these "stoopid SF" books to just one of the manga comics that seem to be taking over most brick and mortar stores...
