Some of you may have noticed yesterday an Instant Message box appeared on the left sidebar. We discovered a neat little IM widget from Meebo.com that allows website visitors to chat with the website authors. We thought that was a cool idea so we installed it. What we didn't like was the load time or the look of the thing. So, we moved it. As you can now see, there is a NEW icon next to the Chat with us link. This will open a new window with two IM widgets installed that will allow you to chat with either myself (JP) or John, assuming, of course that we are online and at our PCs and are available to chat. Which, since John is pretty much a slacker, means almost anytime during the work day....
You can edit your nickname if you want us to see who you are, or just leave it with the randomly assigned name. We thought this might be fun so give it a try and tell us what you think!

You'll have to click on the chat link first to get to the chat page, then you'll see the chat clients. Use those to chat if anyone is online.

I've "dared" several times, but you folks have either been off line or (when you are online) you've ignored me. Wah! I'm taking my comments and going home.

Yeah, the timing thing is a bit wonky. If I'm logged into Meebo during the day, it's a very low priority. I'm quite likely to walk away from the machine or just otherwise be too busy to respond. No offense is intended. My only dedicated time is at night (usually around midnight US central time) and even then for only about an hour or so.
On the bright side, I did have an brief but interesting discussion with Michael A. Burstein.
On the other hand, I missed a chance to talk with you and Mervius (from Fantastica Daily) because I busy working. ![]()
Right now it's still experimental. I balked at the idea when JP put the widget on the home page. But I would like to give this a try and see if it makes for a more personal blog community experience. That is, until people start abusing the mechanism (spammers, hatahs, imposters, etc.)

I think Pete should have an honorary link. That way all the supermodels who read SF Signal could talk to him.
