SCI FI Channel has green-lighted production of 22 one-hour episodes of Flash Gordon, a series based on the popular comic-strip franchise:
The characters of Ming, Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov will be brought back for a contemporary retelling of the comic-strip story created in 1934 by Alex Raymond. Why is it that every time I hear the name Flash Gordon the Queen song pops in my head? Ah well, there are worse things to have echoing through your skull.

I do wish they'd re-release the 1980 movie on DVD for Region 1. They did it for Region 2.
It's cheesy...but its fun!
