Killing Zombies! What can be more fun?

Interesting sci fi vs. fantasy article although I cannot fathom how a person could like one and despise the other. All fantasy isn't wizards and dragons anymore than all science fiction is lightsabers and Death Stars. There are so many fantastic books in both genres that I couldn't imagine having to choose just one.

Putting aside my belief that genres only really exist to help you find a book in a bookstore, I personally have always considered SF to be a sub-genre of fantasy.

It's a fantasy of the possible.

So I've never had any problem with them being shelved together.

RE: "All fantasy isn't wizards and dragons anymore than all science fiction is lightsabers and Death Stars."

Good point, Carl. I keep mentally re-visiting why, as I am often quick to say, I "don't prefer fantasy". JP has narrowed his distaste down to not liking "fantasy with elves". I need to do the same, though I think mine distaste lives in the realm of "unexplained magic". Or something like that...

Robert Sawyer has posted an article from The Trentonian in which he was asked to comment on the SF/Fantasy issue.

H.R. Giger is a gynophobe? (I mean that in the fearing definition, not the hateful definition)
