If you go to Baen Webscriptions, you can read the first 9 chapters from Off Armageddon Reef. More generally, you can read quite a few chapters from any Baen released book since 1999, and from various of their non-Baen releases (like the Liaden universe, the Niven-Pournelle Codominium series), and also from the books to be released soon that are available as e-arcs or Webscription serialization only right now.

I haven't bought the Webscription version of OAR as it is a non-Webscription price. Sorry, but I won't pay hardcover or near-hardcover prices for electrons.

On the other hand, I have bought all of Mr. Weber's Webscription releases from Baen. And buckets of other authors as well. But Tor doesn't seem to "get it" on the price. I'll pay for a hardcover if I want a book that will last a long time on my shelves, a collectible, etc. I will not pay hardcover prices for a electronic file!

You don't even have to pay hardcover prices for the hardcover right now. "Off Armageddon Reef" is currently 50% off at Barnes and Noble.
