The website A Science Fiction Odyssey chronicles the ambitious reading project of Jeff Vehige to read the novels that won the Hugo and/or Nebula Awards.

I'm envious! I've thought of doing a reading project like this for some time but the idea of forcing myself to read from a set list always makes me back away like the commitment-phobe that I am. I choose books to fit my reading mood and like the ability to go wherever that takes me. (Which is usually to the used bookstore. ) Jeff also mentions he will be reading other books, too, but it sounds like he's more dedicated to the award winners than I would be. More power to him! I should note also that the thing that caught my eye was the huge cover graphic for Joe Haldeman's Camouflage by Joe Haldeman -- mainly because it's on my to-read pile. No, not that one...another one. What, you don't have multiple to-read piles?

Scott D. Danielson has had a similar website going, except he's reading all the short fiction!

What, you don't have multiple to-read piles?

My to read piles are mainly in a couple of storage carts, given that my to read books number in triple digits.

Hey, John, thanks for the link. I think if I can stay focused, I can get it done in about two years. I sort of see it as a Master's degree in Science Fiction Literature.

Jealous. I've been trying to do the same thing, but don't have the time to read much. I have two plus "to read" bookshelves and may of those books are award winners.

I've been working on this for several years. I try and read 2 or more award winning novels a year.

Cool, Rich! Are you documenting your progress on a website?

With all the awards given every year, I would think you need to read about 5 or 6 a year minimum just to make any headway.
