RE: New Amsterdam, I am surprised that no one seems to be noting how similar this new show sounds to Highlander: The Series. My theory: Highlander gets no respect because the as a whole is such a mess (I personally thought the TV series was pretty good, regardless of how lousy all those movie sequels are), or possibly it's because Highlander was syndicated, ran at wee hours of the morning in many markets, and so went largely unnoticed by the SF/fantasy community.
As a sidenote, there's another new series this fall that bears a striking resemblance to another early-90s syndicated series: Moonlight sounds like a total retread of Forever Knight... which I always thought was very much like Highlander. It all comes back to those immortal Scotsmen in the end, doesn't it? ![]()

I don't know... I kind of enjoyed Enterprise. It was certainly better than Voyager, The new Dr. Who or Stargate Atlantis.
At first I was irritated with Scott Spatula (Bakula) but his character grew on me and near the end it was getting quite good.

Doh! In my comment above, I meant to say "Highlander gets no respect because the franchise as a whole is such a mess..."
I hate it when I get on a roll and leave words out.

jason, i agree with your comparison of highlander and new amsterdam. I just read a story on NA sounds that says the main character "Had to constantly reinvent himself, taking on new identities to protect his secret, as those around him have grown old and died." the story goes on to say: "if you like history, you'll especially enjoy Joyn's dry, off-the-cuff references to places and events he's experienced over time. and flashbacks to various time in his life become interesting period pieces with costumes, settings and music." That sounds like Highlander: the series to me! but without duncan and his many, multi-faceted immortal friends, foes and watchers! If only they could revive duncan and gang!
