Is it just me or does the Swanwick cover look a lot like the three covers for Alan Dean Foster's recent trilogy? Are we seeing a new trend in SF? Will dogs finally replace cats? Who needs Mundane SF when you can have Canine SF!

"One explanation we can put forward for the crappiness of the Star Trek characters is that they are removed from the human condition. Although they are still mortal (though they often seem to act as though they are not), they live in a world where they do not have to fight for resources..."
Don't have to fight for resources huh...kind of sound like anyone living in the US, Western Europe and Japan from 1960 to now....hmmm i wonder why these shows are being made now? Almost like they are examining a new human condition unprecedented in history.
