David Brin's novel Startide Rising is a beloved sci-fi classic (and don't let a mediocre film adaptation turn you off to his equally great The Postman).
you know someone should really go back and redit that movie sans the cheesy sound track...there really is a good movie in there it just needs some love and about an hour cut out of it.

And Baen just released a second bundle of A. Bertram Chandler's tales of John Grimes. Jim Kirk was a second-rater compared to John Grimes and his exploits "under cover".
