Jekyll was HAAAWESOME. Definitely a must-see.

The writer, Steven Moffat, wrote the best of the new Dr. Who episodes. I don't think that's just my humble opinion about him either - The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and The Girl in the Fireplace I believe both won Hugo awards; and he also wrote Blink for Season 3. I'd be surprised if that didn't win something, that episode was great.

The writing here is just as tight; Jekyll keeps you guessing without hitting you over the head with the whole "mysterious backstory" here thing that Lost and BSG seem to have done.

At first, I thought the actor who played Jekyll wasn't going to be able to pull it off, but that didn't last long - he's fantastic.

I haven't seen Jekyll but it looks interesting. EW has a good point about budgets. Good writing wins out over expensive special effects every time. Naturally, combining both is the ideal...

Another BBC SF series that looks better than most U.S. offerings is Life on Mars. It's already won an international Emmy but is almost unknown in the U.S. I am quite taken with the pilot episode's time travel sequence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GONs9sgfXw

Jekyll wasn't perfect, but it was extremely good, not least of all because of James Nesbitt's terrific dual performance.
