SF Tidbits for 2/1/08
- David Drake's latest newsletter reveals some upcoming projects: The paperback of his fantasy/horror collection, Balefires, out this Spring from Night Shade; The Gods Return, the ninth and final book of the Isles fantasy series, will be a Tor hardcover in November, 2008; and another RCN (Leary/Mundy) space opera (working titles are In the Stormy Red Sky and Cruiser Captain) is in the works.
- Fantasy Magazine interviews Justine Larbalestier & Ekaterina Sedia (The Magic or Madness trilogy and The Secret History of Moscow, respectively).
- The Art Department (who gives us a look at the possible covers for the Ted Chiang's Stories of Your Life and Others reprint) points us to a cool-looking communal art blog: Gorilla Artfare.
- Rich Horton summarizes his impressive 2007 Anthology reading. (40 different original anthologies!)
- Ellen Datlow writes us to say that she is accepting submissions for her reprint anthology The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, Volume 22 (covering fiction to be published in 2008). Ellen also lists the contents of her upcoming anthology Poe: 18 New Tales of Suspense, Dark fantasy, and Horror inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.
- Jeff VanderMeer shares an impressive list of guest hosts he's had over at his blog recently, including Felix Gilman, Norman Spinrad, Sarah Monette, and Cat Rambo.
- SciFiRama lists 6 reasons why Alien vs. Predator didn't suck.
- Viral Video of the Day: Marvel Zombies, the Movie.
- Remember yesterday's tidbit about Discover's lists of 20 Things You Didn't Know About Science Fiction? Apparently, io9 took offense. Now Discover has a humorous response: "Annalee Newitz, the lead editor of the blog, attempts to scare-quote and exclamation-point our lighthearted column into Internet ignominy."
