Spider-Bud 2, Attack of the Advertisers

Well, well, well. It looks like Major League Baseball is taking another bold step toward NASCAR-fication of baseball. It seems on June 11-13, MLB will host a weekend of Spider-Man 2 events, which will include in-park and on-field signage. WTF? ESPN is reporting, via Page 2 so take it with a grain of salt, that special Spider-Man 2 bases will be used. Ugh. What’s next? Lowes stickers on bats? Viagra logos on the baseballs? How about steroid ads tatooed on Barry Bonds’ forehead?
Thankfully, the Astros won’t have to ‘host’ this event. But that does bring about an interesting question: What movie should the Astros promote? If you’re a pessimist, you’d probably vote for Armageddon, or Apollo XIII
Update: Looks MLB has come to their senses and won’t be placing Spidey’s ugly mug on the bases after all! Its a start anyway.

  1. Sitting at the game last weekend I heard people talking about putting advertising on team jerseys. Hey, if they let me into the game free so that I can look at all that advertising, or televise every single game, then I’m all for it. Heck, I think they need to get rid of all the advertising that’s already in Minute Maid Park.
Speaking of advertising, I found a site last night that lists all of the songs used in TV commercials. I downloaded a bunch of stuff, and now have an awesome TV commercial playlist! I’ve got to say that Volkswagon has consistently the best music, followed closely by Mistubishi and Nissan. Not that I watch that many commercials since TIVO came along, though.
