Ok, so, the story from the movie diverges radically from the short story. I know they had to pad the story to feature film length, but come on. Its turned into a typical disaster movie with time travel as the cause. Otherwise, its man vs. nature. I’m thinking, meh. And does anyone remember what the phrase ‘sound of thunder’ referred to in the short story? I do. And I see one way the movie can work that into its story…
Oh good, another staple in the science fiction canon gets swallowed whole and shit out by a major hollywood studio. Within a few years I expect to see a gun-toting Micheal Valentine, Brad Pitt as Lazarus Long, and a version of the Amber Chronicles starring every young good looking actor in Hollywood and featuring an indy-pop Gilmore Girls soundtrack. The Foundation Trilogy will become an interplanetary chase film. Ringworld will feature a twenty-something Louis Wu. Canticle for Leibowitz will be about monks fighting off post apocalyptic mutants.
In the meantime, properties that WOULD make good action films, like the Berzerker books, Elric, Startide Rising, and even Perdido Street Station, lay fallow.

Actually, those sound pretty good. Some of the best movies of the past few years have been about the world overrun by mutants, such as “28 Days Later” and “Dawn Of The Dead”
