Sulu Speaks
George Takei gave an interview to the Online Sun, the internet version of the UK’s daily. He’s got some interesting things to say. Fisrt, he credits ST with moving TV into a more cereberal area and away from the brainless TV of the time (ed. — I guess he forgot about Spock’s Brain!). Having just been born when ST first went on the air, I can’t comment about the brainlessness of late 60′s TV, but ST does have quite a few ‘message’ episodes. He also disses Enterprise after a fashion, saying it doesn’t follow Rodenberry’s theme of looking forward. I’d agree with that. Its a decent read, give it a try.
And for Pete, since this is the Sun, be sure to follow the links to the Page 3 girls. NSFW as they say…

Good read – does anybody know what he means by the Enterprise folks soliciting fan participation and then ignoring it?
A George Takei Memory:
Years ago, a short time after Start Trek the Motion Picture was released, I saw George giving an interview on some local TV station. One thing that I remember to this day is how he was so into Star Trek. At the time, he was talking about the erotic symbolism of the film with V’Ger “penetrating” the clouds, etc. Yikes!
Look at the news today, I think he has something VERY interesting to say — not that there’s anything wrong with that.
You know this would be more helpful if you included a link of some kind….

Why is this even news? Sorry for my forthcoming rant, but this makes no difference in my opinion of him and the roles he played. I just get so tired of “news” like this and “who is dating whom”. They are people just like you and me, and if he wants to be with another man – fine just don’t tell me about it. I won’t share my escapades and he won’t share his. Deal???
Tim, I don’t know if your rant is directed at me or just the news article in general. When I posted the comment, it wasn’t meant to be any more than an interesting bit of news because he was an actor in a sci-fi series that we all knew. It was, by no means, judgemental, either. My opinion of him as an actor is also equally unchanged. Sorry for making a “tabloid” comment.
Its not you Pete – after your post I was doing searches via Google for George Takei and it was plastered all over the place. It just drives me crazy thats all…
No worries man – it was no directed at you but at those evil media people well except for the ones we like. You know how it is…
Woah, Whoa, wait a minute…let’s not miss the most important point here.
Tim, you were saying something about sharing your escapades…?
For you John, I will share, but not on the blog :-@
More interesting to me – I never realized Mr. Sulu had first name – apparently it is Hikaru. I guess I’m officially not a Star Trek fanboy.
