What a condescending article.

You know, I kinda felt the same way. Sure, SF has been around for a long time, but it wasn't really 'acceptable' (still hasn't lost a lot of negative conotations still) or popular until 'Star Wars'. SW is what broke SF into the mainstream pop culture and its been there, to varying degrees, ever since, especially in the realm of the silver screen.

I got a 'sour grapes' feel from the article. The interviewees seem to want to discount the popular affect of ST and SW because their works, in their eyes of course, are 'better'. I bet they'd be singing a different tune if they had produced SW instead of Lucas.

Oh, and another thought. Would ST have had the run it has if not for SW reviving interes in SF at all? I don't think so.

Well...doh...where did they think Lucas and Roddenberry stole all their ideas from? John Campbell, not Joseph Campbell!
