Tayshas Reading List for Young Adult Fiction

The Young Adult Round Table has finalized the 2006-2007 Tayshas Reading List. Tayshas is a project whose objective is to “motivate young adults to become life-long readers and to participate in the community of readers in Texas.” Tayshas produces the reading list for high school students and it may only contain books whose copyright is less that two years old.

10 genre titles have made the cut:

  • Magic or Madness by Justine Larbalestier (Fantasy)
  • Myrren’s Gift Fiona by McIntosh (Fantasy)
  • The Secret Under My Skin by Janet McNaughton (Science fiction)
  • Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Fantasy)
  • Gothic! Ten Original Dark Tales by edited by Deborah Noyes (Horror)
  • Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson (Fantasy)
  • The Book of Dead Days by Marcus Sedgwick (Fantasy)
  • Uglies by Scott Westerfeld (Science fiction)
  • The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray by Chris Wooding (Fantasy)
  • Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin (Fantasy)

Within the genre titles, that’s a mix of 70% Fantasy, 20% Science Fiction and 10% Horror.
