What’s the Scariest Movie Ever?

It’s Halloween! Everyone has their own list of scary movies. (Or movie charcters, or horror villains, or scenes, or…)
What do you think are the scariest movies?
For me, it’d be The Exorcist, The Evil Dead and The Omen (original). I saw all of these when I was an impressionable, young whippersnapper. (As opposed to the stubborn old codger I am today.) These are the movies that I’d remember when I was home alone and the house would start making noises I never heard before. The bed moved! Was that the sound of a amputated hand crawling up the wall? Is that Damien in the attic?
I was never much scared by slasher horror flicks. I always found them to be amusing when I was younger; the bloodier, the better. My all-time favorite movie-going experience is still A Nightmare on Elm Street because the audience was so into it.

Poltergeist, The Omen and An American Werewolf In London (the dream scenes are terrifying), all seen when I was too young.
Recently, 28 Days Later, zombies that can run argghhhH!
Ring, the Japanese version (the US one is just not even 10% as scary, and blow sit all in the trailers anyway).
I watched it on video in my room late at night with a friend, and had to move the tv to a different room after to sleep! The obviously scariest scene is just….so…..creepy!
The original (Robert Wise) version of The Haunting. Great story by Shirley Jackson. Black and white. No special effects, other than some excellent camera work. Intense yet subtle music. Some good acting.
Still scares the heck out of me. Forget the remake! Buckets of blood do not a good movie make!

Interesting, Bravo just ran a series titled ‘100 Sacriest Moments in TV/Film‘ and so I got to relive a lot of those scary films.
Jaws was at the top of the list, and I have to say there were major scary moments in there for me as well.
I was also always scared by Halloween because it seemed so real.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a Sci-Fi horror film, and thus my third pick is Alien.
The last scenes in Rosemary’s baby scared the piss out of me as a kid, when all the old folks start shouting Hail Satan!
The Sentinel, with the old priest in the window and Burgess Meredith as the devil and the horribly twisted minions of Hell flopping across the floor.
Suspiria. Saw it as a teenager. Fucked me up.
Ooooh…The Sentinel. Good one.
Halloween is bound to be a popular choice. Never did much for me, probably because I saw it years after its initial release. I was inured to the genre a bit.
I forgot about Let’s Scare Jessica to Death.
The Terminator has to be one of the better sci-fi horror films too. Much better than the sequels anyway in the horror department.
Yeah, 28 Days Later is extreme the first time you see it! I saw it in the theater and was just in agony the whole time. A scary and artistic film. I have the DVD and it is still great, but wow there was nothing like that first time.
In general Zombies do it for me. Night of the Living Dead just makes me weak with terror, but 28 Days Later is definitely the more intellectual film.

Have to go with the Japanese version of The Ring. There’s something about that girl that really creeps the crap out of me.
About ten days after I saw the flick I was walking through my living room. It was dark and I stepped on the TVs remote control, the TV switched on to static and for a second I thought that creepy bitch was coming to get me. Spooky.
Heh-heh.
I was really scared and entertained by The Devil and Daniel Webster. How easy it would be to let frustration and fear trick one into making a deal with devil.
I was also terrified by b>Internal Affairs. The Richard Geer character is such a perfect sociopath- and his power to sense people’s weaknesses is so perfect.
I am more scared by movies that suggest how I might mess up my life then how I might be eaten, or whatever, by a dead child molester.
Strangers: The part when the hite guy is in the house right in the other room and she cannot see him. I’m young, so it’s really scary…
