The Star Wars Christmas Album

Apologies in advance, but there is a price to pay for having us troll the web for tidbits. Now it’s time for you to pay the piper, so man up and take your medicine like a good little geek…

Most fans remember the monstrosity that was The Star Wars Holiday Special, but how many remember a Star Wars Christmas album?

In 1980, someone had the audacity to release Christmas in the Stars, a painful sound assault by Meco & the cast of Star Wars. Feast your ears on “What Can You Get a Wookie For Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb)“. And, if you’re still alive afterwards, check out R2D2 singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. Listen to more samples at Amazon. I bet it will have you wishing you were in a galaxy far, far away.

In all my life I thought I would never actually prefer listening to Leonard Nimoy.

  1. Hey now, some of us listen to that album every Christmas (and have since 1980)! Surely some one who likes SF–with all of its various cult classics–can appreciate the sentiment.

  2. Even more interesting is the note (if it can be believed) on Amazon that Jon Bon Jovi is singing in the R2D2 chorus.

Anthony Daniels, Jon Bon Jovi and disco producer Meco – yowsa!

  3. Only too briefly — I have a low threshold for pain. I heard some warbling and then blood started coming out of my ears. According the source link, that’s what it was supposed to be. Do you feel somehow cheated? ;-)

  4. I liked that album as a kid. I don’t think we should look too closely at the things that we found enjoyable/amusing/entertaining as kids. Our tastes change, and the song gives good information to all those seeking a present for a wookie who already has a comb – buy a brush! (And no, I didn’t have to look it up, I still remember the words…)

Now excuse me while I go try to find the Christmas episode from Terrahawks before moving on to Battle of the Planets reruns…

  5. Sorry Steve..like John i have a very low threshold for pain and couldnt listen past the first few bars. I have since listened to the entire track and am slightly disappointed that they didnt take the opportunity to actually have r2 sing along. What a waste!
