- Interviews and Profiles:
- At SciFi Wire, John Joseph Adams profiles Allen Steele, author of Galaxy Blues.
- SF Site interviews Patrick Rothfuss (The Name of the Wind).
- John Scalzi is featured on another Tor podcast, this time talking about The Last Colony.
- The latest Cult Pop features Lauren Groff (Monsters of Templeton) and Corey Redekop (Shelf Monkey).
- Free Fiction:
- “A Butterfly in Peking” by Nina Munteanu. [via SF Canada]
- From ManyBooks.net:
- “No Moving Parts” by Murray F. Yaco (1960)
- “Trouble on Titan” by Arthur K. Barnes (1941)
- Cover Pr0n: Tobias Buckell shows off the cool Brian Dow cover for his upcoming collection from Wyrm Publishing, Tides From The New Worlds.
- James Nicoll asks: Are SF Awards an exercise in futility?
- Futile or not, James @ Big Dumb Object has an analysis of the BSFA Award novel shortlists vs. the Clarke Award shortlists.
- Commentary in Fantasy Magazine tells us How To Kill Off A Sense Of Wonder in fantasy (particularly paranormal fantasy). There are some great comments in this thread. I echo the thought that not everything needs to be original. Even so, “original” to the whole of written fiction at large is a much harder obligation to fulfill than “original to me”.
- Solar Flare lists 10 Fantasy Books That Should Be Movies.
- Peggy @ Biology in Science Fiction looks at The Depiction of Cloning in the Movies and lists “the best of the bunch, science-wise”.
- SciFi Scanner asks: Why Does Sci-Fi Hate Utopia? My answer: Because Utopias are boring and Dystopias rock.
- The new X-Files movie has a name: The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
- Cinematical has the scoop on the big screen adaptation of the comic Atlantis Rising.
- This week’s SciFi Dept has Kevin Maher looking at The Five Most Evil Computer Villains. Weren’t all of these easily defeated by asking the computer to calculate Pi to the last digit? Oh wait…that was just on Star Trek.
- I’m glad someone else has noticed Bruce Davison’s SciFi creds. SciFi Observer showcases Bruce Davison: Great Sci-Fi A-hole.
