There might not always be time for a long, thoughful post…but there’s always time for a quick Meme!
I’m in the middle of reading Sly Mongoose by Tobias S. Buckell. Space zombies! Very cool.
What book are you reading right now?
Tell us.
Now!
UPDATE: And how are you enjoying it so far?

I’m nearly finished with David Anthony Durham’s fantasy epic ACACIA, the first book in a planned series. I have to say, so far it’s been remarkable and impossible to put down. He’s a fantastic writer and has concocted quite a story that is built around the character point-of-view technique of narration done so well by George RR Martin, who clearly must have helped inspire Durham. The diverse world of the characters is full of intrigue, conflict, betrayal and hope. Magic is there but so far at a minimum. Highly recommended.
Currently working on Jay Lake’s “Mainspring”, which I’m quite enjoying. Although, because I tend to read this late at night, I stay up longer than I should, and thus I have few coherent recollections other than that I like it.
Way too many books, simultaneously. I’ve gotten through 30 books YTD and 289 short works YTD. I’m probably reading about 24 or so books more or less in parallel.
I need to get one of those “life” things.
:O
I am reading three books right now The Prefect by Alastair Reynolds, and loving it; Dust by Elizabeth Bear, enjoying it to; and rereading Bright of the Sky by Kay Kenyon so I can read the new book A World to Near with it fresh in my mind.
Just about to wrap up the Dying Earth omnibus. Jack Vance is amazing. Subterranean Press is going to do a tribute to the dying earth with a ton of good authors. I can’t wait.
Next up is either Against the Day or Red Seas over Red Skies.
Also in the middle of the most recent Weird Tales issue. Excellent stuff.
Harry Harrison, 50 in 50
Rocketo by Frank Espinosa – a fun story and brilliant art.
Brass Man by Neal Asher – Asher is a blast. I’m loving the Cormac novels.
The Dreaming Void – Peter F Hamilton
Am just getting into it – but love getting back into his universes again…
Brave New World – Aldous Huxley. Finally getting around to one of the classics. Interesting so far, I’m about 1/2 way through.
The Electric Church – Jeff Somers. Read about this right here on this sight. Not bad so far, entertaining but kind of over-written.
Just finished:
Ilium – Dan Simmons. Enjoyed quite a bit. Typical Simmons–compelling story, cool ideas, a bit of literary show-offiness.
Radical Evolution – Joel Garreau. Non-fiction about the way technology is changing our bodies (and maybe the definition of ‘human’). Some interesting stuff but overall disappointing. Full review on my LJ if you’re really interested.
Reading Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko, listening to Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett
Just finished The New Space Opera. I particularly liked Muse of Fire by Dan Simmons. Also just finished The Road By Cormac McCarthy – Very Bleak story but well done and a very fast read.
I’m about to embark on an oldie Way Station by Clifford Simak and then Wizard’s Fire Rule so that the tv series doesn’t put me off the book.
