- The Collider.com staff managed to get their grubby mits on a draft of the script for the Galactica prequel, Caprica. The review: Not too bad. Of course, this version is almost 2 years old. And I’m not at all interested in a ‘soap’ space opera.
- The Nickelodeon ‘anime’ cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender is fast approaching its series finale. BuddyTV gives us their top 10 episodes. Does anyone watch this show? It looks semi-interesting, but I’ve never seen any of it.
- If any of you are planning on being at the Shore Leave Star Trek convention tomorrow, you are in for a treat. James Cawley, via his Star Trek: New Voyages production, will unveil the never aired TNG script, “Blood and Fire”, written by David Gerrold. This will be a smooth cut, without SFX. Cool.Next, maybe Cawley can help Gerrold finish the Cthorr series…
- We can expect Fringe and Eleventh Hour to rule the roost this fall season, at least according to one report about the new fall season. I think Fringe, with its built in Abrams’ fan base, will do well. It helps that the show itself is pretty good too, if typical of Abrams and of the serialized genre nowadays.
- Gene Roddenberry Jr., in his latest (06/30) video blog, talks about Star Wars and Trek.
- The video game, Max Payne, is being made into a non-Uwe Boll movie. Check out the trailer:

Avatar: The Last Airbender is quite excellent — one of the very best animated series I’ve seen, actually. Of course, it depends on how tolerant you are of kids’ cartoons. While the overarching story and action are reminiscent of the coolest, most bad-ass anime you’ve ever seen, a lot of the characters also add an element of campy and goofy humour, and there is a cute animal sidekick. (It doesn’t speak, though.) I’m very much looking forward to the final Book being released on DVD so I can finish off the series.
JP, Avatar: The Last Airbender is made of awesome. Here’s what I said about it on my blog a while back:
“[Avatar] is honestly the best secondary world fantasy ever produced for television, and arguably the best bit of worldbuilding done outside of a prose novel. Ostensibly for kids aged six to ten, or thereabouts, the storytelling is subtle, layered, and often astonishingly sophisticated (the first brainwashing sequences with the Dai Li, for example, were as good as anything since the original Manchurian Candidate), and compulsively watchable.”
Seriously, it’s great. And by the end of this month the whole thing will be available on DVD, start to finish. Well worth checking out.
I’m in the middle of the series now. Avatar rocks, plain and simple. It’s the best TV show I’ve seen in a long long time and it’s got my full attention to the point of neglecting the rest of my to-dos. Can’t recommend it enough.

I watch it, and it is about the only thing I watch. I would say it is the best thing on TV, but, since it is the only thing I watch, how would I know? In any case, a delightful show, original, funny, dramatic, touching, insightful, well-animated, well(voice)acted, lovable characters,villains full of villainy, just plain fun.
I’ve never seen it. Now, I sort of want to.
Since it currently sounds about 600% better than Heroes, season 3…
I’ve seen a couple of episodes of Avatar while watching them with my son, and it is quickly apparent that 1) it is unconventional, 2) it contains layers not normally seen on childrens cartoons, and 3) the serial story requires you to watch multiple episodes to see what is going on. My kids don’t like to watch it because of the last item, I think – it isn’t easy for them to get into what is happening like it is with other cartoons.
