Who Says Physics Isn’t Cool? Just Look at The Large Hadron Collider!
No, we’re not going talk about how the Large Hadron Collider (or LHC as its friends call it) will create a mini black hole that will swallow the world, and you. Instead we are going to look at some really cool things surrounding the LHC that you may, or may not, have seen.
First up, The Boston Glober has a really cool web site called The Big Picture. Every few days they pick a topic and plaster many high res pictures about that picture onto their site. Today they chose to highlight the LHC. Check out the business end of the Compact Muon Solenoid (three words that you probably thought would never go together):

But wait, there’s more!
From Boing Boing comes the Large Hadron Rap:
Alright! Now that’s kickin’ it like MC Hawking! It’s fun and informative. If all science was like this, well, we’d have more rappers for a start, but we’d also have more people who realize science is cool.

The Eye of Sauron!
As of this post, the LHC is supposed to be activated in 2 days.
As for mini Black holes, even Stephen Hawkings said they will evaporate within a billionth of a second. At 600 million collisions/second, this thing is going to be awsome when it’s activated. I can’t wait.
btw, the rap number was prettty good.
