The migration of science fiction authors to the young adult category is not new [looks at Scott Westerfeld], nor is dabbling in the YA category. A slew of recent books from established science fiction authors are appearing (or will appear) that are targeted for younger readers:
Do you know of any other recent/upcoming YA adult book written by sf/f authors who normally don't write YA?

I was thinking of more recently, but since I didn't specify a time frame...
Sure, we could mention Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker (October 2007) and China Miéville's Un Lun Dun (January 2008).
While we're at it, let's throw in Stephen Baxter's The H-Bomb Girl (September 2007).

Sean Williams has a couple of YA books either out now or forthcoming. I think they're set in the same universe as his Books of the Cataclysm novels (though I'm not exactly certain).

Thanks so much for this post because I just found out that a fellow blogger of mine is going to launch a blog dedicated to YA SF. I just emailed her about this piece. I know she'd appreciate learning about potential authors in this genre.

My client Brandon Sanderson has his "Alcatraz" series with Scholastic, with ALCATRAZ VS. THE SCRIVENER'S BONES about to appear in hardcover coincident with the paperback release of ALCATRAZ VS. THE EVIL LIBRARIANS.

Scott Westerfeld has written a bunch of really popular YA books recently. I think he's known primarily for his YA stuff (the Uglies trilogy, namely), but he's also written adult SF.

Here's a new one that just came to my attention:
The Night Children by Kit Reed.

Michael Chabon's book "Summerland" is a YA novel. (It's about four years old at this point, and possibly beyond the timeframe of which you were thinking.)
Kelly Link has a new book of short stories called "Pretty Monsters" coming out for YA readers.

Interestingly enough, the book I am currently reading and will review for you guys (yes, slave meister John, I am working on it) goes the opposite way. Stephenie Meyer wrote the Twilight series aimed at the female young adult market, and she recently went all elderly and penned The Host...which John lent me.
Review soon.
