  • SF Author Eric Nylund asks: Are pre-publication reviews cheating, or informative? My 2 pennies: The bottom line for anyone who reads reviews is (1) Do you trust the reviewer to be honest? (2) Do the reviewer’s tastes match your own? These things take time to determine. Meanwhile, the day the review is released into the wild has little to do with whether a review is informative, useful, honest, or well written.
  • Mary Doria Russell writes in to tell us that Barnes and Noble is featuring her classic, The Sparrow in a “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” promotion this month. Also, her fourth novel, Dreamers of the Day, will be released in paperback on December 14th and is being featured at Target stores.
  • Nathan Lily writes in to let us know ablut Thaumatrope, a magazine for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror fiction under 140 characters, available via Twitter.
  • Several genre films (including The Dark Knight…gasp!) make the list of The 8 Most Ridiculous Film Plots of the Year. [via Bill Crider's Pop Culture Magazine]
  • The reviews of remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still are not very kind, including this one from Gary Westfahl at Locus Online: “A major part of the problem, of course, is the crucial miscasting of the consistently inept Keanu Reeves in the role of Klaatu.” Ouch! That would hurt Keanu if he weren’t made entirely of wood. Hi-yo!
