I haven't read Fables either, but the concept sounds a lot like the standard folklore in the city fare of Charles DeLint.

If you go into Second Life, just look up Stargate Central Command; they've got the entire Cheyenne Mountain complex recreated, as well as Atlantis and Midway!

Fables is a great comic book, a lot of fun to read and fascinating in its development. I highly recommend it. I think DC Comics keeps the first issue available as a free download on their website, and many libraries stock the trades if you don't want to buy the books at first.
Willingham managed to do some very clever things with the concept. Oddly, the book gets recommend often with a comparison to Sandman, but it's really very different.

Fables is a great comic and has the potential to convert well to a TV series. As a friend of mine pointed out, it has the sprawling cast of Heroes, but the characters' basic back stories are already known, so the mythology won't be so daunting to a general audience.
Incidentally, along with Fables, DC publishes a spin-off comic, Jack of Fables and Chris Roberson will be writing a second spin-off, a limited series featuring Cinderella.

Chalk up another FABLES endorsement. It's really, really good.
No, the concept isn't completely original, but what Willingham does with it is. Hopefully the TV version will be as good.

I really like Fables, despite the recent issues piling up unread in my living room, but I have a very bad feeling about it in TV form.
I might be just a cynic...

Fables is fantastic. I'll be interested in seeing what ABC makes of it.

FABLES is one of the best comics I've read in years. Not as good as WATCHMEN or as Jeff Smith's BONE, but better than just about everything else.

Another FABLES recommendation from me. It's good. It actually feels like a comic which evolved from the Alan Moore/Neil Gaiman school of comic sensibility. Rather than just copying those two, it took the intelligence and cleverness of story and then applied it to new ideas. See what I mean?
Very enjoyable reads. Get some of the graphic novels at Barnes & Noble and have a good time.
Of course, that might just make you MORE nervous at the prospect of them making a TV show out of it.
