- Whoopi Goldberg (does anyone remember her anymore?) will be creating and starring in an online-only SF series called Stream. This show will go live on January 15th and will be available only on Fearnet.com. Now, the quick synopsis I've seen says Stream is about "a character who is trying to come to terms with her lifelong fears." I'm not sure what is SF about that, but then again there isn't much detail yet. And I can't believe that Whoopi has much cache anymore to get people to flock to the website to see her star in a new series.
- Nielsen just released their list of Top 10 Timeshifted Primetime Programs for 2008 and genre shows own the top three spots: Heroes, Fringe and LOST. Not bad. The Mentalist also makes the cut at #9. I'd think it would be higher seeing as how you can't watch it online anymore...
- Stargate: Universe has it's lead actor: Robert Carlyle (Gaz in The Full Monty). Inspired casting or not? I'll let you decide.
- The Toronto Star considers whether Heroes may be beyond saving. I think most of us would chuck 'may be' and add 'is' and call it a day. Did anyone realize the Vol. 3 finale was last night?
- Newsweek critic Joshua Alston says Battlestar Galactica is the one show that exemplifies what it's like to live in the 'age of George W. Bush'. I'll have to think about this some more as I'm not sure he presents any evidence to support the case. Unless he's trying to say 'W' is a Cylon...

Not that a care about Whoopi one way or the other, but her popularity is there. Being a host on The View she gets plenty of visibility. Whether that translate to people watching an ionline show, I couldn't say.

One of the big problems with BSG after the middle of seaons 2 (or thereabouts) is that the writers took all the media commentary about the show being about Bush/War on Terror/Iraq/Gitmo, etc. to heart. It became some sort of allegory/parable/satire about current events (and a very muddled one at that). The politics of the show are so vague and screwed up that anyone can see anything they want in the plot and characters and write about them. And Newsweek, The New York Times, etc. have all done exactly that.
