RIP: Ricardo Montalban

More sad news today...

Yahoo is reporting that Actor Ricardo Montalban has died at 88 years of age.

Montalban acting credits are extensive (Fantasy Island, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, the Spy Kids films), but genre fans will always remember him most fondly as Khan from Star Trek, bot in the original series ("Space Seed") and the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

I grew up watching RM on Fantasy Island.  Love Boat followed by Fantasy Island was a weekly event in our family television viewing.   I'm sure it wouldn't stand the test of time if I watched an episode now, but at the time, as a young child, it was quite the show.

And of course Wrath of Kahn remains my favorite of the Star Trek films and RM, as Kahn, is a large part of the reason that film is so cherished by fans.

Ricardo Montalban must have been a contender for Lady's Man of the year at least a few times during his lifetime
