If you aren't going to be watching the Super Bowl today, you will miss the airing of a new TV spot for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. Never fear, SF Signal is here! Watch the trailer in HD if you can:
[Edit: replaced deleted YouTube with Hulu]
First, the whole 'building a starship on Earth' thing still really bugs me, even if it does look cool.
Second, orbital diving! Now that is awesome!
I'm still not convinced this will be more than an action movie dressed up in Trekkie clothes, but it does look good. Hopefully, if the movie does blow, there will be enough space battles to salvage something. After all, who doesn't like a good space battle?

Not to be a killjoy, but this just keeps looking worse and worse.
Also, why would Paramount have a problem with free advertising? Seems just a mite power hungry.

The problem with copyright is that if you don't enforce it, you lose it. In other words, if Paramount doesn't tell YouTube to drop the spot they could lose their control over it. And it this case, it looks like NBC setup a deal to host the commercials on Hulu and not allow them on their rival YouTube.

Oh, I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I still think that such a deal was short-sighted. I mean, when you have ads for something like this, the built-in fanbase is going to do a lot of the work for you. When it comes to online marketing, they really don't need to be making exclusive deals.
