We here at SF Signal headquarters were thrilled to be asked by Blogs.com to contribute a list of 10 Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Author Blogs. It was much more difficult than we anticipated since there are so many author blogs that are worth reading. But we mercilessly knuckled down and came up with the list.
Since blogs.com only asks for the list but allows no room for explanation or justification, we thought we'd explain them here:
[UPDATE: Apparently they do allow for explanations -- their post will be updated to reflect these explanations.]
10 Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Author Blogs
It's the nature of lists to note omissions against your own choices. So tell us: which author blogs would you have included?

Jerry Pournelle - hands down best blog ever: http://www.jerrypournelle.com/ .
He even writes "how to get my job" as a sci-fi and computer writer: http://www.jerrypournelle.com/slowchange/myjob.html .

Jennifer Fallon's blog. Can't believe it's not on your list. Funny, interesting and often full of good writing advice.

This reminds me --- does anyone know what happened to L.E. Modesitt Jr.'s website? It's not where it used to be, and Google still links to the old address.

I've got to admit that omitting Nancy Kress seems like an awfully big omission in my book. An influential writer and writing instructor, her blog posts are often akin to mini writing workshops.
Besides, only one female made this list? The other nine are men?
Umm, any concerns that maybe certain segments of the community will not be upset by this?
Just sayin'.
Respects,
S. F. Murphy

John Birmingham's blog- http://www.cheeseburgergothic.com/.
One of the outstanding SF Author's who I can't believe was overlooked.
Funny, interesting, frequent pundit on all things blog, or geek and raconteur on all things, frequently sort after by government and media in Australia for his insightful comment.
His blog is full of good writing advice leavened with humour and canny insight drawn from years of experience and an impressive body of work.

I second what mr Murphy says. Nancy Kress's blog is the only one I follow with regularity. She talks entertainingly about her own writing, and tackles consistently interesting topics in her posts. And don't forget that Frederik Pohl has recently become a blogger - and some of his early posts are wonderful. Absolutely unmissable stuff there.
I've also visited Jim Kelly's blog occasionally. I don't know where I would rate it, but it's pretty good.
I think the super-editors might have been included. I regularly visit Jonathan Strahan's and occasionally peek at Ellen Datlow's. These blogs offer a variety of posts, but the ones about forthcoming books make them especially noteworthy.

Awesome list! Is the lol-typo in Charlie's description intentional? ;)

@Peter: Hmm...Editors...that would be another list.
@Jamie: Heh-heh. No, that was not intentional. ![]()

This is a really great top ten list, but I have to say that Cory's blog is the best. He consistently has really good articles on his blog. Anyone can post their own to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.

That list above is pretty staid and boring, and reads like something composed by a suburban librarian.
Notable omissions:
M. John Harrison: http://ambientehotel.wordpress.com/
William Gibson: http://williamgibsonbooks.com/blog/blog.asp
Bruce Sterling: http://blog.wired.com/sterling/
Philip K. Dick: ...okay, just kidding.
