Books Received: April 20, 2009

Fun for us: We get books. In the interest of full disclosure, here are the ones we received this past week.

Fun for you: From the following titles:

  1. If you saw it at a bookstore, which book would you pick up to read more about it?
  2. Which title by an author (whose work you have read) do you most want to read?
  3. Which title by an author (whose work you have not read) do you most want to read?

    STARFINDER and TERRA INSEGURA.

    1. Which title by an author (whose work you have read) do you most want to read?

Since I am a Baxter fan, FLOOD,  definitely.

I’ve seen lots of stuff about Enge, so I would say Blood of Ambrose.

  1. I’m curious about  Sam Gunn, so I would take a closer look.  It always sounded like a decent pulp-style adventure character.  I’d take a look.

I’d buy Baxter for sure, although I’m only midway through the Manifold series and I won’t skip any of that.  It doesn’t hurt that I see John reading it, so that’s a pretty good indication for me.

A new author?  Well, Bova would be new and probably worth trying.  It’s not likely, to go home now, but perhaps on some rainy day.

  2.

    1. Terra Insegura would catch my eye.

    2.  I’ve been a fan of Stephen Baxter, so I might give Flood a go.

    3.  I’ve heard good things about Ben Bova but have not tasted his work.  I might give Sam Gunn a shot.

The Terminator Salvation book, not because of any interest in Terminator, but because I’m a long-time fan of Timothy Zahn. I don’t think I’d buy it, though.

Out of that list? Tad Williams’ Shadowplay. But mostly because I read his previous book. I’m not a huge Tad Williams fan.

I’ve never read anything particular by Baxter, and I am a sucker for mega-disaster stories, so I might give Flood a whirl.

  3. 1. Flood – Stephen Baxter. Great cover.

    2. The Sam Gunn Omnibus – Ben Bova.

    3. Tad Williams. I’ve always meant to read his work and realized I haven’t gotten to any of it yet.

And on a purely physical note, I’m really drawn to that cover for Flood.

  4. 1. Terribly Twisted Tales. The title sucked me in.

    2. Probably Flood, but it would be a toss-up with Ben Bova’s book

    3. Terra Insugera. I have no idea what it’s about, but it looks interesting.
