  • AWARDS NEWS: The James Tiptree, Jr. Literary Award Council announced the 2008 Tiptree Award has two winners: Patrick Ness's young adult novel The Knife of Never Letting Go (Walker) and Nisi Shawl's short story collection Filter House (Aqueduct). The Tiptree Award will be presented on Memorial Day weekend at WisCon in Madison, Wisconsin. [via Locus Online]

  • Vonda N. McIntyre's Nebula Award and Hugo Award winning book Dreamsnake is now available in serial form and as an eBook download at Book View Cafe.

  • Andrew Wheeler lists the Genre Bestsellers of 2008 as per Publishers Weekly.

  • James Wallace Harris looks at Heinlein's "lost" juvenile novel, Variable Star, and zeros in on the essential ingredients to Heinlein's juvenile novels.

  • Stephanie Burgis looks at The frivolous side of publishing

  • The latest issue of Concept Sci-Fi (#5) has an interview with Lou Anders and short fiction from Dylan Fox, Lawrence Buentello and Jonathan Lowe.

  • FREE FICTION: SF Signal reader Scott D. Parker's western short story "You Don't Get Three Mistakes" is up, and it's quite good. Head yonder and read it.

  • Real (old )Science: Sentient Developments begins a new feature called Yesterday's Tomorrow which looks at future visions from the past. (This is not to be confused with Graham Sleight's "Yesterday's Tomorrows" column in Locus.)

Thanks for the shout-out. I've started a new blog devoted exclusively to SF/F. My first post is how this little western story has inspired nothing less than a full-blown fantasy novel. Go figure.
