Where Were You When The Flash Forward Occurred?
So last night I took my son to a Lone Star Promise meeting at the community college and, as we always do, I took the other boys to the county library which is in the same building. Rummaging around the SF section I noticed Flash Forward by Robert J. Sawyer. I’d heard good things about the book and I know ABC is working on a pilot for a TV show based on the book so I picked it up to check out.
Since I had some time to kill, I started reading. Imagine my surprise when the date for the ‘flash forward’ is April 21st, 2009. That’s today! Reading a bit further I noticed that exact time for the event is 1700h Geneva time, which is 12 noon Eastern Time (11 Central!). So everyone should take 1 minute, 43 seconds at that exact time and note what you are doing and imagine what you might be doing 21 years from now. Will Ron Moore be right and the robots have rebelled? Will we finally have personal jetpacks or flying cars? I don’t know, but I’d like to stick around and find out. And for the record, based on the first several chapters, if I had the time and if the story stays as strong, I could have very easily finished this one in one sitting…
For whatever reason, this discovery tickles me, as does that fact that John reviewed Wake, Robert J. Sawyer’s newest book, earlier today. Serendipity FTW!

Yeah, io9 had posted on ABC’s Flash Forward on Monday, and I went to check out the book.
Had the similar experience of saying, “Hey! That’s tomorrow!”
