Who’s the Best Character on SciFi TV Right Now?
Some friends and I were talking today about great television show characters and I had to reiterate that I think Fringe‘s Walter Bishop (played by John Noble) is one of the best characters on television today. He’s one of the main reasons I tune into Fox every Tuesday night. (Except for this week because, thanks to Comcast not meeting a deadline, my Tivo guide thinks Fringe is on a dead channel. But don’t get me started on Comcast…)
While I’m off watching this week’s episode on Fox.com, tell us your favorite SciFi-related character on television today…

It’s not a sci-fi show, but right now I’m really enjoying Nathan Fillion (“Firefly”) in “Castle.”
Oh, yes, definitely John Noble as Walter Bishop in Fringe is my favorite character/actor currently in SciFi.
I say currently, because I’m eagerly anticipating the premiere of Stargate: Universe this fall. There are several actors in this new series that I LOVE (Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips) and several whose work is new to me but they look promising (Brian J. Smith and David Blue).
Also, I’m eagerly waiting for the second season of Sanctuary to return, with more of the awesome Amanda Tapping, Christopher Heyerdahl and Ryan Robbins.
However, I agree with sqt as well. Nathan Fillion is always a pleasure to watch.
Until their shows ended recently, I would have said Admiral Bill Adama on BSG and Cameron on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Currently, while it’s still on anyway, I’d have to say Sock from Reaper. Not the deepest character, but one of the most consistently, deeply amusing.
After having watched the pilot for Caprica, I’m looking forward to seeing more of Esai Morales as Joseph Adama and Eric Stolz as Daniel Graystone.
Silas on “Kings”, if you count it as scifi.
I’ve tried FRINGE a few times and found the characters, particularly Noble’s, to be rather stereotyped. It’s just sad they’re moving production from NYC to Vancouver. Canada can’t replicate NYC
There isn’t much science fiction on tv right now, but the UK show “Primeval” is proving fun.
The Ben Linus character on “Lost”.
Well *I* like Fringe – even if I’m only 1 of 3 people. And I enjoy John Noble quite a lot. And the Observer, even though he’s only ever had one speaking role
There isn’t enough SF on TV right now, but back in “the day” I’d have picked the entire crew of the Firefly.
Although next week, when we meet Bell on Fringe, I might have a new favorite.
Torchwood’s Captain Jack Harkness ;D
I adore John Noble. He’s a powerful actor (he was very fine as Denethor in the Lord of the Rings).
But for now, my favorite character has to be The Doctor, by David Tennant…
Phillip Glenister as Gene Hunt on “Ashes to Ashes”. The second season started this week and looks promising.
None of my favorites are currently on the air. I grew to love Donna Noble on Doctor Who, while Sheriff Carter from Eureka has always been a favorite (I’m so excited it’s finally coming back this summer), but one my favorite lines in ages was delivered by Dr. Will Zimmerman from Santcuary. During the season finale, Tesla and Druit are bickering and the new girl asks what’s going on. Will’s deadpan response: “The guy who invented the radio just dissed Jack the Ripper.”
I have to second Ben Linus from LOST. So evil, so self-serving, and unexpectedly sympathetic. You hate him, yet you feel his pain…
Sam Wise as the devil in Reaper, hands down.
Hurley! (Lost)
