Would SF get more respect if its book covers were more sedate?
You know, for as stupid as it sounds, I've often felt that it would. And even though I don't really care what people think of my reading habits, I have often found a tad conscious of the cover in my hands and have certainly been put off by other covers. It's a lot like romance covers. there's just an association that goes with them, whether that's fair or not.

Harlan Ellison recently rejected the Cleveland Arts Prize, a lifetime achievement award from his hometown celebrating his writing career.
Sometimes Ellison's curmudgeonness crosses over full borne into being a <<expletive deleted>>. I appreciate his piss and vinegar,l but I think, somewhere along the line, he's become at least a bit of what he used to hate and rail against.

I thought King of the Elves was going to be the next PKD adaptation (Dec. 2012 scheduled release)?

Unless Flow My Tears... comes out sooner, I guess...

Paul, I don't know where I stand on Harlan having to pay his own way to the ceremony, but I agree with you on his attitude in general. I've never read him and it's becoming increasingly more difficult to consider even giving him a shot because I've more or less detested him each time I've seen him speak. Some say you've gotta take most of what he says in a light-hearted way, but he's just so damn nasty all the time.

Back in December of last year I found what I thought was a legitimate copy of Harlan Ellison's "Jeffty is Five" on the internet. I wrote a review and linked to the story. A week later the story was taken down. No problem, I found another online copy and link to it instead. A week later it was taken down too, but this time the blogger posted a very interesting story about how Ellison called in the middle of the night and yelled at him!
I agree with the above comments - Harlan Ellison's attitude has turned me off to his work. There are plenty of other great SF authors out there who's stories I would rather promote.
