I liked Alchemy of Stone for its characterization of a clockwork girl desiring her independence, but I still feel like the book read like a shell of what I hoped it would be.  The relationships and emotions worked quite well, however, the narrative just runs a bit thin for my taste.   It's definitely worth reading, but the fantasy aspects of the alchemy and gargoyles pulled me away from the things I liked - the robot girl and her clockwork life.

The robot book I've got my eye on is Twisted Metal (Tony Ballantyne).   Also, with more of a cyberpunk aspect, I'd like to read Black Glass (John Shirley).
