An interesting spread certainly….
Of particular interest to me though:
‘Skinwalker’. I’ve just started Faith Hunter’s book ‘Seraphs’ and find myself enjoying her style of post-apocalyptic paranormal fantasy, in much the same way as Lilith Saintcrow’s Dante Valentine book’s add a aci-fi edge to the the genre….
‘First Riders Call’. I’ve seen this book on the shelves where I work for years, but have never had the time to read it myself. An opinion would be appreciated
‘Omen’. What can I say, I’m a sucker for stories told in the GFFA, and the first book, ‘Outcast’ was a breath of fresh air after the grimness of Dark Nest and LOTF. Plus the preview chapters have been fascinating….
John Hawkes book, not because the cover art grabbed me, but because it’s the last in the Travelers series, and I read the other two.
Interesting cover for John Dies @ the End. The rest could use a bit more creativity.
@Dawftdd: I haven’t read First Rider’s Call, so I can’t say if it’s good.
@ces: I’m also looking forward to The Golden City after enjoying both The Traveler and The Dark River.
@weyland: The plot of the book sounds interesting as well.
No bad covers in this lot — at the least, they all do a good job of signaling to their target audiences and looking attractive within the prevailing style of their subgenres – and John Dies at the End is pretty great. Not sure it’s my kind of book, but I appreciate the cleverness.
Faith Hunter had sample chapters of ‘Skinwalker’ up on her site a while ago. Safely within the lines of kick-ass heroine urban fantasy, but well-done. Probably a paperback buy for me.
If ‘First Rider’s Call’ can be judged by its prequel, ‘Green Rider,’ it’s thoroughly mediocre secondary-world fantasy starring A Girl and Her Horse. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone but a 14-year-old horseloving girl, or a reader channeling his or her inner 14-year-old horseloving girl.
@Dawftdd: I’ve read First Rider’s Call, and the next two books in the series. Think of the Heralds of Vlademare with less magical/intelligent horses. I did like the way Britain handles the characters, and it’s different enough from Lackey’s Vlademare books that once you get one or two eye rolls over the similarities out of the way the books are enjoyable.
I love the artist who’s doing those Czerneda cover paintings.
And the cover for John Dies at the End is nice too.
I’ve read the first two books in Kristin Landon’s trilogy and am looking forward to THE DARK REACHES. I’m even doing a giveaway (the entire trilogy) on my blog at the end of this month thanks to the generosity of the author.
Any chance there’ll be a review here of her books?
